KEEP THE IMPERFECT

The disaster album

HOW TO PLAY

Three steps. Endless almosts.

01 / OBSERVE

Watch each person’s eyes, smile and attention. Each personality has its own rhythm. Gold dots warn of a coming distraction.

02 / DIRECT

Try a call. “Smile!” helps expressions but may make someone laugh with closed eyes. Every call has a trade-off.

03 / CAPTURE

Press the red shutter or Space. Account for the displayed delay, then save your photo or replay the same pattern.

THE SCIENCE OF ALMOST

Why do group photos go wrong?

A group portrait is a coordination problem: everyone needs open eyes, a natural expression and attention at the same moment. This game gives each person a repeating but different rhythm, so watching the group helps you anticipate a better shot.

A simple model: if each person independently has a 95% chance of being ready, all 8 are ready about 66% of the time (0.95⁸). With 20 people it falls to about 36%. This is an illustration, not a measured blink rate; real people and their blinks are not independent.

For real photos, tell everyone where to look, use a clear countdown and take several frames. Keep the mood relaxed and check faces before the group disperses. In the game, replay a pattern to learn which person causes that “almost perfect” moment.

A few things before you say cheese

Is Group Photo Chaos free?

Yes. Play this browser timing game without signing up or installing anything.

How is the score calculated?

Open eyes contribute 50 points, attention 20, natural expression 20 and staying in frame 10. Only a completely ready group earns 100.

What changes between modes?

Classic lets you observe at your own pace. Time attack ends after 30 seconds. One person mode makes one guest the recurring problem. Daily uses a shared UTC-date seed, scene, group size and delay so the challenge is the same for everyone. Calls still change your attempt.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Scores and up to six album images are saved in this browser when storage is available. PNG export happens on your device. Sharing sends a file only when you choose a destination in your device’s share sheet.

Can I play on mobile or with a keyboard?

Yes. Tap the shutter on mobile, or press Space on a keyboard. P pauses the game. Reduced-motion preferences disable the border flash.

How do I remove saved photos?

Use Clear album below the gallery. Browser storage is limited, so keep a PNG copy of any photo you want to keep.
